About

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Joshua Mackenroth moved to a small town in northern California, graduating from CSUC, Chico with a B.S. in California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1993 before opening his own insurance defense practice in Century City, California.

After only two years, he accepted the General Counsel position for a risk purchasing group. Days after taking his position, the company was served with two massive lawsuits brought by much larger competitors and former business partners seeking over a hundred million dollars in an attempt to put his employer out of business for good. With no business litigation experience and matched up against big firms from San Francisco and Los Angeles, Mr. Mackenroth successfully defeated multiple attempts to crush his employer's business and is credited with saving the company and the employees' jobs who depended on it. He even sued other corporations who tried to take advantage of the situation by stealing the company's customers and trade secrets.

He went on to become the Assistant General Counsel for one of the largest privately held insurance agencies in the U.S., gaining valuable insight into insurance companies, from what motivates them to settle a case to what they fear most.

Now in private practice, his focus is primarily on contracts and business litigation, employment and consumer law, and personal injury cases. Mr. Mackenroth also handles intellectual property matters, from copyright and trademark protection to theft of trade secret cases.

Career Highlights

• Spearheaded an investigation into misuse of public funds within the California Department of Parks and Recreation and ultimately testified before the California State Legislature about his findings. His investigation resulted in a legislative audit of a $65 million dollar public trust fund and restructuring of the entire agency.
• Successfully defended a client facing two multi-million dollar lawsuits, a contested divorce, and a commercial eviction attempt that threatened to shut down the business and bankrupt the CEO.
• Trial counsel in criminal and civil jury and court trials, AAA binding arbitration, administrative hearings Writs and Appeals (including the California Supreme Court).
• As Chief Privacy Officer for a national insurance agency, Mr. Mackenroth initiated and developed company-wide comprehensive compliance programs in response to recent legislation meeting federal and state law requirements in all fifty states.
